What Should the Final Chapters Include?

·         Chapter One: Nature of the Conflict

o    Background – 3-5 pages; enough substance so reader understands context.

o    Conflict Map – visual map and narrative; actors, structures (political, social, economic, security), dynamics.

o    Issues and Goals – 3-5; table and narrative; each issue has a corresponding goal of the study

o    Methodology and Research Question – one out of four methodologies - narrative, CMM, case study, phenomenology; Research question, one central question and if you want to include sub-questions.

·         Chapter Two: Data

o    Data Collection – identify sources and provide some information from the data.

o    Data Analysis – use your conflict analysis tools to analyze the data.

o    Literature Review – 3-5 themes; 2-3 theories per theme.

o    Data Interpretation – use your theories from your lit review to interpret the data; the “so what of the analysis.

o    Bridge to Intervention Strategies – identify the needs from the analysis and interpretation; transition to chapter three.

·         Chapter Three: Intervention

o    Strategic Goal of the Intervention

o    Need One - provide overview of first need, why it is appropriate, what has already been done to address this need, recommended intervention method and strategy, rationale for this choice, what needs to be in place for this intervention to succeed, how will the intervention address cultural sensitivity, how will you monitor the intervention, and how will you measure success

o    Need Two - provide overview of second need, why it is appropriate, what has already been done to address this need, recommended intervention method and strategy, rationale for this choice, what needs to be in place for this intervention to succeed, how will the intervention address cultural sensitivity, how will you monitor the intervention, and how will you measure success

o    Need Three - provide overview of third need, why it is appropriate, what has already been done to address this need, recommended intervention method and strategy, rationale for this choice, what needs to be in place for this intervention to succeed, how will the intervention address cultural sensitivity, how will you monitor the intervention, and how will you measure success

o    SWOT Analysis - identity strengths and weaknesses of your interventions

o    Capacity Building - in selecting and bringing these intervention strategies forth, how do they work together to build capacity?

·         Chapter 4: Networks and Sustainability

o    Introduction that serves as an Executive Summary to provide an overview of the network of actors from previous analysis (PS6125), proposed interventions (PS6250), and summary of sustainability strategies.

o    The Network - Describe the network through appropriate models

o    The Intervention and Challenge to Sustainability - Describe your interventions and illustrate how you will sustain the change the intervention will bring. What aspects of your network might influence impact sustainability? Describe the challenges that your sustainability plans face.

o    Strategies for Sustainability - Identify strategies for sustainability, future scenarios (driving forces, predetermined elements, linking scenarios to observable indicators, monitoring and evaluation.

·         Conclusion (Sometimes called Chapter 5)

o    3-5 pages

o    Should include any limitations 

o    Should include suggestions for further research
