Basic Excel Sample Test Overview This assignment will test your basic knowledge of working with the Excel tool.

Instructions

  1. Go to cell J1 and enter the current date in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  2. Go to cell B1 and type the following text in that cell so it appears as shown here:

This is an example of a cell with multiple lines

  1. In cell B3, enter 13245; in cell C3, enter 13248; in cell D3 enter 13251. Then use auto fill to fill the series to cell O3.
  2. In cell B5, type Jan 1; in cell B6, type Feb 1; in cell B7, type Mar 1. Use auto fill to expand the three dates until all entries through December have been created.
  3. Add the following entries into your spreadsheet at the cell locations shown:
  4. Format the cells as in the above spreadsheet
  5. Total the amounts for each salesperson in column H.
  6. Calculate commissions in column J, Total Sales X Commission Rate.
  7. Format column H and J as Currency.
  8. Display the formulas in columns H and J in columns K and L, respectively, using the appropriate function to display the formula using text.
  9. Add headers to column K which reads “Total Sales Formula”.
  10. Add headers to column L which reads “Commission Formula”.
  11. Appropriately size column K and L to show all the data.
  12. Rename the sheet from “Sheet1” to “Commissions”.
  13. In the same worksheet, create a new spreadsheet labeled “Calculations”.
  14. In the spreadsheet labeled “Calculations enter the following data:
    1. Cell A1 enter 12
    2. Cell B1 enter 20
    3. Cell C1 enter 21
    4. Cell D1 enter 90
    5. Cell E1 enter the formula =A1+B1*C1-D1
    6. Cell F1 enter the formula =(A1+B1)*(C1-D1)
  15. In cell G1 explain the difference in the results of the formulas entered in step 16. Size the cell appropriately to contain all your answer.
  16. In the spreadsheet labeled “Calculations enter the following data:
    1. Cell A2 enter 90
    2. Cell B2 enter 1/3
    3. Cell C2 enter the formula A2 * B2
    4. Cell A3 enter 90
    5. Cell B3 enter .33
    6. Cell C3 enter the formula A3 * B3
  17. Format cells C2 and C3 for 3 decimal places.
  18. In cell G3 explain the difference in the results of the formulas entered in step 18. Size the cell appropriately to contain all your answer.
  19. In cell H4, explain the implications in creating spreadsheets based on the answer in G3. Size the cell appropriately to contain all your answer.
